WHAT MATTERS

Four things to know about your NCB

Your no-claim bonus is simple but has a few important rules.

1. It grows every claim-free year

You start at 20% after one claim-free year, then 25%, 35%, 45%, and 50% after five or more claim-free years. It stays at 50% for as long as you don't claim.

2. One claim resets it to zero

If you make a claim, your NCB drops back to 0% at renewal. That's why small claims are often better paid out of pocket than claimed.

3. It applies only to own-damage

NCB reduces the own-damage premium, not the third-party liability premium (which is fixed by law) or add-on covers like zero depreciation.

4. It's transferable between insurers

If you switch insurers at renewal, your NCB carries over — just provide the previous policy and a no-claim certificate. Don't lose it by switching without proof.

No. Add-on covers like zero depreciation, engine protection, or roadside assistance are priced separately and are not discounted by NCB.

You typically have a grace period (usually 30 days for car insurance). If you renew within it, NCB is preserved. Renewing after the grace period means losing your NCB.

No. NCB is only a premium discount. Your claim settlement is unaffected by it. The only impact is that a claim resets your NCB at renewal.

No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, tracked, or stored.

Very close. Insurers may round differently and may have minimum premium rules. Use these figures for planning, then confirm with your insurer's final quote.

This calculator provides estimates for general guidance only. Actual NCB slabs, base premiums, and applicable taxes depend on your insurer's policy terms and your vehicle profile. NCB is regulated by the IRDAI. This is not financial advice.
